Acclaimed, cleverly written and stylish coming of age drama about an east german soldier who is recruited as a secret agent to defend communism in west berlin and abroad. In a paranoid and divided germany in 1983, 24 year old east german border patrol guard martin rauch is recruited by the east germany secret service to go undercover as a west german soldier. In his role as an oberleutnant, martin assumes the identity of moritz stamm and, while serving under major general wolfgang edel , gathers intelligence on the west's military activities and culture.
