biographical sporting drama and old fashioned love story, set in post war britain and based on the life of german goalkeeper bert trautmann.   bert trautmann famously kept goal for 17 minutes with a broken neck during the 1956 fa cup final. But this anglo german biopic isn't really a football film. It’s an old fashioned love story set against an extraordinary backdrop of top tier football and postwar anger and intolerance. The drama follows trautmann’s live as he moves from being a german soldier and pow to becoming the goalkeeper at manchester city, against a backdrop of british post war protest and prejudice, and in doing so becomes a footballing icon. Struggling for acceptance by those who dismiss him as the enemy, bert's love for margaret freya mavor, an englishwoman, carries him through and he wins over even his harshest opponents by winning the 1956 fa cup final, playing on with a broken neck to secure victory.
