One of bordeaux’s most esteemed producers, cos d’estournel has been turning heads since it was founded by louis gaspard d’estournel in 1791. As of 2000, it’s been owned by the entrepreneur michel reybier, who sets a demanding agenda marrying top quality with risk taking and innovation. The terroir is, as you might imagine, exceptional. Set across two hillsides and a central plateau, the vineyards benefit from gravel and clay soils and a maritime climate that brings natural ventilation. This 2014 vintage is intensely aromatic, with notes of blackberry, graphite, tobacco and mint shining through. Medium bodied, graceful and with a long, elegant finish, it’s a classic match for lamb.
